The menu is a 3x3 table with the outside cells having (required) background images (i.e. the background image for the left center cell is only 5 pixels tall but is tiled to give the appearance of a continuous image).

The resume is also a table with the border set at 0.

The slideshow/gallery is a javascript module that is included with Frontpage. It does not seem to function entirely as expected but is seems to fix itself when one of the arrows are clicked.  I chose not to use a 3rd party script to avoid any confusion.
